These two works are the last paintings I'd completed before the devastating Eaton Fires destroyed my studio and our home. I believe in moving forward- as evidenced by my already having produced 20 or so serious drawings already- however There are 3 or 4 major paintings I will redo once I've a proper studio other than a little table in a guest's back-house. Butterfly I first conceived around 1977 but it wasn't till 3 years ago I finally decided I was able to work the theme- hence it was serious enough to paint after 40 plus years it deserves another attempt... The Crime and Punishment work-  since I read the book in graduate school I'd wanted to paint a version- when the Ukraine war was heating up I decided to piggy back my support onto the novel.
